Highlights on Guru Pushyanakshatra

On the auspicious occasion of Guru Pushyanakshatra, Thursday 20th October 2011, the Traders and jewellers have done almost a business of Rs. 225 Crore in the State at that day. The trading business included 2,000 kg of silver and 800 kg gold bought by the Gujarat customers.

Gold sales was estimated to be around Rs. 214 crore while the figure for silver is Rs. 11 crore in the state. Traders and jewellers of Ahmedabad estimates that around 300 kg of gold and 700 kg of silver were sold in Ahmedabad alone.

Highlights on Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is observed on the third day of the Hindi month of Vaishaka.

On the auspicious day of 'Akshaya Tritiya' Gold sales went high due to the drop in prices of Gold in Gujarat that day. The rates slashed down to Rs. 23,200 for 10 grams of Gold.

Gujarat is known as the "Silver hub of India". The state imported the highest quantity of 161.77 tonne in January, imports plunged over 70% to 47 tonne last month and the figure up to March 18 was an abysmal 6 kg, data from Gujarat State Export Corporation (GSECL), show.

Kandla port in Guajarat is a favourite destination for silver shipments into the country since transport by containers is the cheapest route.
