Saurastra - The Land With The Most Colorful History

The meaning of the word SAURASTRA i.e. 'SAU' means all and 'RASTRA' means state in other words is the land of innumerable small states.

Every state has its own history, architecture, temples, lakes, ponds, palaces, forts and tales. It is the land of saints and folk-artists. Zaverchand Meghani had compiled and described such features of Saurastra in his works like 'Saurastra ni Rasdhar', 'Radhiyali Raat', 'Sorath Tara Vehta Pani', 'Vevishal' and the list goes on and on.

Gunavantrai Acharya had explored the seashore in his novels and Dula Kaag sung the folk-tales in his poetry. Saurastra cannot be confine to an article, it might need entire volumes of books or pages and may be even that is in capable of narrating the glory of Saurastra.

Saurastra consists of following major princely states before independence. They are

1)Morvi
2)Rajkot
3)Gondal
4)Jamnagar
5)Junagadh
6)Bhavnagar
7)Gadhda
8)Vadhvan

And many other small states that were ruled by the king that were under these major states. And each of above mentioned has its own tales and history. I consider myself fortunate enough to born in this grate land that is rich in diversity and prosperity.
