Sabarmati Ashram-Ahmadabad


This resource will explain about Sabarmati Ashram is also known as Gandhi Ashram which is located in Ahmadabad and was built by Mahamatma Gandhi who is our national father.

This ashram was built in 17th June 1917 by Mahatma Gandhi who is our national father. It is also known as satyagraha Ashram which is located at Ahmadabad on the bank of Sabarmati river. It was the center for all freedom fighter during the freedom struggle. Our national father was lived in this ashram and held many sabhas(meetings) in this ashram where many of the freedom straggler came to join and give a company to Gandhiji in the fight against the British people to get freedom for all the India.

Gandhi Ashram is nowadays became museum which is visited by about 7, 00,000 people in present days.His life motto was that "My life is my motto"

Gandhiji was lived in 'Hridaya (Heart) Kunj' which was the small cottage This place has great historical value.The view of sabarmati Ashram is shown below.

Nandini:
It is located on the right side of the 'Hridaya (Heart) Kunj', which was the old guest house at that time.

Vinoba Kutir:
It was named after the name of Vinoba Bhave who was also a freedom fighter, was lived stayed there.The image of Vinoba Kutir is shown below.

Upasana Mandir:
It was used as the pray ground which was open air ground and located between the
'Hridaya (Heart) Kunj' and 'Magan Kutir'(where Maganlal Gandhi used to stay there who was ashram manager).

Gandhi Sangrahalaya:
It was introduced by Javaharlal nehru at May 10,1963. it contains five units and one library, two photo gallerias and an auditorium.
This museum cotains oil-painting of live-sized of Gandhiji's life 'My life is My Message' and 'Gandhiji in Ahmedabad'.
It has about 34,600 letters written by gandhiji.
There is also 6,367 negatives of photographs.
210 films on Gandhiji and national struggle.

It is remains open for all the days including sunday and other holidys from 8.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
