Surat achieves 94% property tax recovery

SURAT: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has created a record of sorts by collecting 94 per cent property tax for the financial year that ended on March 31, 2011. Sharad Mehta, assistant commissioner of finance, SMC, said, "Never in the history of any civic body has overall current recovery crossed the 90 per cent mark." Overall property tax recovery is pegged at 77.55 per cent against the total demand of Rs 314 crore.
